Poonam, in her mid-twenties, has been married for about 10 years, and has a three year old son, Abhay. Originally from a small village outside of Varanasi, her husband works as a mechanic brought them to the city.

Away from her extended family, and naturally reserved, Poonam’s days are slow and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby ghats. After morning chores are complete, she sometimes wanders to the corner near the school, sitting at the snack stall run by a few women from the neighbourhood.
